Gina Charles is an award-winning actress, writer, and producer. Her first book, Love Soup: A Modern Soul Kitchen, was published in 2009 and has gone on to sell over 100,000 copies. She has since published several more books including: Love Soup: Recovering the Soul, Eat Love: A Soul Food Cookbook and her most recent release – Soul Food: A New Orleans Family Cookbook. Gina was born in 1970 in Dallas Texas and grew up in New York City and attended Barnard College for her undergraduate degree where she studied acting and French literature
She was a member of the college theatrical company, The Green Stage Players and performed with such actors as David Hyde Pierce (Frasier) and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds). Gina later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an actress and continued her education by taking acting classes at The Groundlings Theatre School. She was a member of the improvisational group "The Groundlings" with such stars as Will Ferrell (Saturday Night Live), Ana Gasteyer (SNL), Tony Hale (Arrested Development) and Amy Sedaris (Strangers With Candy).
In 2002 she received a Writers Guild Award for her work on the film "Cruel Intentions" which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar. In 2005 Gina had a small part as a street vendor in the film "Knocked Up." In 2007 she had a role as a reporter in the film "Solitary Man." In 2008 she starred as Emily Bronson on the TV series "Third Watch." In 2012 she starred as Lisbeth Salander's mother Harriet Vanger in the film "The Girl Who Played With Fire." In 2013 she starred as Christina Ricci's mother June Salter in 'Young Adult" which also starred Shailene Woodley, Zoey Deutch, Theo James, Bel Powley and Gabrielle Union. Gina is currently developing several projects including a biopic starring Daisy Ridley of Star Wars fame.
